Session Topics

1. Marine Turtles of the Red Sea
Discover the majestic marine turtles of the Red Sea, including the endangered green turtle and the critically endangered hawksbill turtle. Learn to identify different species, understand their life cycle and behaviors, and delve into the ongoing conservation efforts aimed at protecting these ancient creatures. You’ll gain insights into how researchers track individual turtles and the challenges these species face in todayβs world.

2. Fish of the Red Sea
Dive into the vibrant underwater world of Red Sea fish! With over a thousand species to explore, youβll learn about their evolution, unique adaptations, and surprising behaviors. From spotting elusive species to understanding the ecological roles they play, this session will help you uncover the secrets of these aquatic marvels and teach you how to interact with them responsibly in their natural habitat.

3. Corals of the Red Sea
Did you know corals are animals? Explore the fascinating world of coral reefsβEarthβs largest structures of biological origin. Learn about the mutual relationship between corals and algae, the unique resilience of Red Sea corals, and how climate change is impacting reefs globally. By the end of this session, youβll be able to recognize key coral species and appreciate their role in sustaining marine biodiversity.

4. Cetaceans of the Red Sea
Discover the enchanting world of dolphins and whales of the Red Sea. Learn about their anatomy, behaviors, and migratory patterns, and uncover the critical challenges they face in the region. This session will introduce you to their unique communication methods and how conservationists are working to ensure their survival.

How Are These Sessions Delivered?
Platform:
Sessions are held via a user-friendly online platform (details will be provided upon registration).
Duration:
Each session lasts 1:30 hour, including a Q&A segment with the biologist.
Customization:
Sessions can be scheduled based on participant preferences and language requirements. You may indicate your preferred dates and time slots, and while we cannot guarantee availability, we will do our best to accommodate everyoneβs needs. Sessions will be conducted in the requested language (English, Italian, or Polish).
Certification:
After attending, participants will receive a digital Certificate of Completion, personalized with their name.
Partecipants:
The minimum number of participants per session is 3.
Contribution:
The minimum contribution for each session is 20β¬, but any additional support is valuable to support our sea turtle conservation activities.
Payment & Scheduling:
Payments can be made via PayPal or bank transfer. Once all participants in a session have completed their payment, we will finalize the date, time, and language of the session.
Meet the TurtleWatch Egypt Biologists
Our expert team of biologists from TurtleWatch Egypt is passionate about marine conservation and has extensive hands-on experience in the Red Sea. Each member brings years of work in marine turtle conservation, photo identification, field research, and public dissemination. With a deep commitment to protecting marine life, they skillfully combine their scientific expertise with engaging presentations tailored to diverse audiences.
All sessions are led by members of our team, who conduct their work in multiple languages, including English, Italian, and Polish. Whether youβre a beginner or an enthusiast, our biologistsβ approachable style and wealth of experience will make every session insightful and memorable.

Micol Montagna
Project Coordinator, Trainer
Micol is a biologist with a Masterβs degree in Biodiversity and Evolution and over 10 years of experience in marine turtle conservation and photo identification. She has been living in the Red Sea since 2012, and since 2015 has been the coordinator of TurtleWatch Egypt. Her passion for biodiversity and animal behavior is reflected in her engaging and approachable teaching style. Micolβs knowledge extends beyond marine turtlesβshe also has expertise in the region’s diverse fish species, corals, and cetaceans. She has experience in monitoring dolphins both in Australia and the Red Sea, and her sessions are built on a combination of academic knowledge and real-world fieldwork, giving participants a comprehensive understanding of the Red Sea’s marine ecosystems.

Valeria Roma
Valeria holds a masterβs degree in Biodiversity and Evolution, specializing in animal ecology and conservation. She has extensive experience in teaching and environmental outreach, gained through educational activities tailored to diverse audiencesβfrom high school students, where she taught science, to hotel and diving center staff during training sessions conducted with TurtleWatch Egypt. She has also carried out research on turtle strandings along Italyβs Adriatic coast and, since 2023, has been deepening her knowledge of the Red Seaβs ecosystems. Her sessions blend scientific expertise with an engaging communication style, offering a comprehensive understanding of marine life and focusing on the behavior and conservation of turtles, fish, corals, and cetaceans. Valeriaβs passion for environmental education shines through in her interactive and inspiring lessons.

Rebecca Montanari
Rebecca is a marine biologist with a masterβs degree in Marine Biology and a lifelong passion for the ocean. She has been diving since the age of nine, and her academic research includes studying a region along the Adriatic coast of Italy for potential sea turtle nesting areas. Rebeccaβs work is focused on the conservation of marine life, particularly turtles, fish, corals, and cetaceans. She joined TurtleWatch Egypt in 2024 and brings a fresh perspective on the regionβs marine ecosystems. Rebeccaβs energetic and approachable teaching style makes her sessions enjoyable and informative.

Maja Zamecka
Maja is an oceanographer specializing in marine biology, with years of experience in turtle monitoring, rehabilitation, and photo identification. She first became involved with sea turtles in 2015 when she volunteered with ARCHELON, the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece. Since joining TurtleWatch Egypt in 2022, Maja has deepened her expertise in the Red Seaβs marine ecosystems. She also has extensive experience leading guided eco-tours in Iceland, where she helps disseminate scientific knowledge about cetaceans. Majaβs dynamic sessions draw from her diverse experiences, combining scientific research with a passion for marine conservation.
