Neste: A New Friend in Hermes Bay

Neste is a green turtle that marks an exciting new addition to the TurtleWatch Egypt registry. This turtle was first spotted and recorded in October 2024 at Hermes Bay, a serene and biodiverse site in the Red Sea. The sighting was made by Steven Peeters, who carefully documented Neste during a single encounter.
As a newly registered turtle with just one recorded sighting, Neste’s story is only beginning. Green turtles are vital to the marine ecosystem, helping to maintain healthy seagrass beds and coral reefs. Observations like Steven’s provide critical data for understanding their habitats, behaviors, and movements in the region.
Hermes Bay, with its ideal conditions and rich marine life, serves as a crucial habitat for these remarkable creatures. Thanks to the efforts of citizen scientists like Steven Peeters, TurtleWatch Egypt continues to deepen its understanding of green turtles and their conservation needs.
