The Sand-Dune Dreamer: Meet Luma-Kaya

Every turtle has its own favorite way to spend the day, and for our new entry Luma-Kaya, it’s all about finding the perfect spot for a peaceful siesta.
Registered in 2026, Luma-Kaya was first documented by Nicole Wingartz and Anita Stoppini, our dedicated collaborators from SUBEX - The Art of Diving in Sharm El Sheikh. Their expert eyes spotted this beautiful Green sea turtle during a dive, adding a precious new chapter to our Red Sea catalog.
Luma-Kaya has a very distinctive "chill" personality. Unlike some of its more active neighbors, it seems to have mastered the art of relaxation. It was discovered resting calmly on a soft, sandy patch of the seabed, looking almost like a smooth, ancient stone amidst the ripples of the sand. There, it remained perfectly still, basking in the quiet currents and the dappled sunlight filtering down from the surface, completely unbothered by the world passing by.
By adopting Luma-Kaya, you are supporting our collaborative efforts with the diving community in Sharm El Sheikh. Your contribution helps us and our partners at SUBEX monitor Luma-Kaya’s health and habitat, ensuring that this "sand-dune dreamer" always has a safe and quiet place to rest.
