Cuccy: The Long-Term Resident of Makadi Bay

Cuccy, a resilient male hawksbill turtle, was first sighted on June 1, 2016, by Ralph Hasselbach in the vibrant reefs of Makadi Bay. Since then, Cuccy has become a familiar and cherished presence in the area. Over the course of eight years, Cuccy has been spotted a total of seven times, with his movements and behavior carefully documented by dedicated observers.

From swimming gracefully to feeding in the nutrient-rich waters of Makadi Bay, Cuccy’s sightings span from 2016 to 2024. His most recent appearance was on August 25, 2024, by Marco Hannich, affirming his enduring presence in this beautiful reef system. Cuccy’s long-term residence offers a fascinating glimpse into the life of a hawksbill turtle and underscores the importance of preserving these habitats.
