Turtle Alizè

Meet Alizè — The Newcomer of Shams Alam!

Alizè-adopted

Alizè made her first official appearance in the warm, shallow waters of Shams Alam in June 2025, during a special Turtle & Reef Week with Turtle Watch Egypt 2.0. It was an unforgettable moment — not only because she was a brand-new face, but also because her calm, curious nature captured everyone’s hearts from the start.
With a straight carapace length of just 55 cm, Alizè is still a juvenile. Juvenile sightings are precious — they offer a glimpse into the early life stages of these long-lived marine reptiles and help us better understand how they use coastal habitats as they grow.

Her name, Alizè, was chosen by the very group of citizen scientists who first encountered her — a nod to the ocean breeze and the sense of discovery that filled the air during her first documented swim.
